Opening Times

Sanctuary is to open visitors from Saturday 21 – Saturday 28 May. Tickets are not required: 
12:00 – 20:00, 21 – 27 May
10:00 – 14:00, 28 May

Sanctuary will be set alight at sunset, approximately 21:00, on the evening of Saturday 28 May. Gates will open at 19:00.

Parking

We strongly encourage visitors to Sanctuary to arrive on foot, by bicycle or public transport. There is no parking on-site or in the vicinity.

If coming by car is unavoidable, please note that parking is extremely limited, there is likely to be considerable congestion around Bedworth town centre at peak times throughout the event, and car users are likely to be subject to significant delays.

We are now at full capacity for accessible parking in the Miners’ Welfare Car Park for the night of the burn (28 May).

Accessibility

Access to the artwork

Sanctuary is situated on top of a mound at the Miners’ Welfare Park. It is an outdoor park without covering and the terrain will be uneven.

Wheelchair users can use the concrete path to access the structure. The path follows the perimeter of the park and has an 8% gradient to get to the top. There will be volunteers onsite who can help if you require assistance.

 

Accessible viewing platform

During the burn on the 28 May, you can view the sculpture from below the mound.

There are two accessible viewing areas indicated on the map below. Please look out for the signs:

  • Miners’ Welfare Play Park, close to the skatepark
  • At the bottom of the Sanctuary structure, accessed via the path


Distances

The distance from Bedworth train station to the Bedworth Leisure Centre is a 10-minute walk.

The distance from Bedworth Leisure Centre to the Sanctuary site is a 5-minute walk up hill.

 

Accessible parking

During the week Sanctuary is open to the public (21 – 27 May) there is accessible parking available at Miners’ Welfare Car Park near to the Leisure Centre. This is general parking and is not managed by Artichoke.

We are now at full capacity for accessible parking in the Miners’ Welfare Car Park for the night of the burn (28 May).

Accessible toilets

We are providing accessible toilets on the night of the burn only. The toilets will be located towards the bottom of the mound close to the artwork.

 

Accessible tours

We are providing accessible tours of Sanctuary on the 26 and 27 May.

We strongly encourage you to visit Sanctuary on foot, by bicycle or public transport. Enter the Miners’ Welfare Park via the Coventry Road entrance.


Cycling

Bus

There are a number of public bus services which operate via Sanctuary:

  • National Express Coventry – 20 service: Operates to/from Trinity St, Coventry and Nuneaton Bus Station and vice versa (31 minutes from Coventry to Bedworth)
  • Stagecoach – 48C service: Operates a similar route to the 20, but links with the 48L service to/from Leicester (27 minutes from Coventry to Bedworth)
  • Arriva – 78 service: Operates via University Hospital and Wood End, Coventry. The accompanying 79 has journeys to/from Keresley and Ash Green. The bus drops off and picks up on Mill St, Bedworth which is roughly a half mile walk (around 10 minutes) from the Miners’ Welfare Park

 

Train

 Bedworth train station is an 8-minute walk from Sanctuary.

There is a service from Coventry – Bedworth which leaves at 17 minutes past the hour, every hour. The journey takes 12 minutes.

 

Road Closures

Large numbers of people are expected to attend the Sanctuary burn on the evening of Saturday 28 May, and a number of restrictions for traffic access and parking will be in place for the safety of pedestrians.

The changes will directly affect residents who live beside the park, along the Coventry Road. We appreciate that this will mean some disruption, and would like to reassure you that we are working to keep this to a minimum. The changes to access and parking are listed below:

  • Coventry Road will be closed from 19:00 to 23:00 on Saturday 28 May between the Rectory Drive junction south of Coventry Road to Rye Piece Ringway roundabout to the North.
  • Access for local traffic only (with resident pass) at Rye Piece Ringway roundabout into Spitalfields and High Street. Road closed at Coventry Road between King Street and Park Road.
  • Access to Coventry Road, Park Road and Springfield Close will be for residents / access only.
  • Access along Rectory Drive will remain open.
  • Pedestrian access remains unchanged.

Some parking restrictions will be in place within the streets named above, and Spitalfields car park will have restricted access for the duration of the event.
